Ultimate Goals

-Establish a culture of excellence and a strong work ethic at Legacy, both academic and extracurricular, for students and teachers/staff

-Narrow the achievement gaps between student groups on EOC, AP, SAT/ACT assessments

-Simple, subtle change when reforming/improving programs and systems

-Foster a culture of instructional innovation. Teachers should not be afraid to try something new or different instructionally.

-Increase percentage of students achieving a score of 3, 4 or 5 on all AP tests

-Increase the number of teachers who use iPads to deliver instruction; 100% of teachers will use an iTunes U course by the end of the 14-15 school year.

-Prepare students to be global digital citizens; “It’s not about the technology. It’s about the learning.”

 

Year 1 – Trust (2013-2014)

Goal # 1 – Build trusting & positive relationships with faculty and staff.

-August Professional Development Week team building activities

-Conduct regular walk throughs of classrooms weekly, review walk through data with assistant principals at every Thursday meeting

-August meetings with office personnel, custodians, food service workers to identify current operating procedures and communicate expectations, solicit input for improvements

-Attend all PTSA meetings

-Email parents weekly to communicate school activities and celebrate school extracurricular activities

-Visible presence in hallways and classrooms

-Meet 5-7 student each week

-Start counseling office GO Center

 

Goal # 2 – Clarify, build systems of organization and structure within Legacy High School that are aligned with MISD policies and procedures in order to create a shared vision for the future.

-Clearly define the roles, responsibilities of each Legacy professional and paraprofessional

-Set and communicate expectations for student behavior using a Two Week Due Process Protocol with video

-Communicate PDAS expectations for administrators and faculty

-Communicate expectations for weekly walk throughs using the Legacy Look Fors

-Meet with the data specialist to put together a full accounting of current status of student progress (past here years)

-Hold regular Thursday administrative meetings to discuss findings from walk throughs, other campus operational tasks

-Early Spring review and analysis of the master schedule for maximized instructional time

-Schedule and attend subject planning meetings

-Notify faculty/staff of planning period expectations through the Department Chair meetings

-Attend and share information from principal meetings (PDC)

-Introduce the Fundamental Five

-Start dialogue about formative assessment, common assessments within core subject areas

-Support the current digital learning initiative, iPad Module training for all professional faculty

-Start development of plans to monitor and improve student learning at Legacy, including ESL, SPED, AVID, Pre AP/AP students

-Model digital learning/instruction in all campus meetings, trainings

-100% of teachers will complete the iPad Module Training/Artifact Submission/iPad Workshop Attendance

-Dedicate 1 half day of professional development to iPad training for teachers

-Start ESL Parent Nights to empower parents, provide resources to help ESL students academically

-Start dialogue about paperless instruction.

Goal # 3 – Build a foundation for continuous improvement of Legacy High School by identifying strengths and weakness of the instructional program. Target areas for growth as identified by all Legacy stakeholders.

-Collect data via the data specialist

-Provide data for all stakeholders and solicit feedback through PTSA meetings, Campus Site Based Committee Meetings, Department Chair Meetings and individual department meetings

-Start dialogue to develop a campus wide RTI support system for struggling students to improve academic performance

Year 2 – Connect (2014-2015)

Goal # 1 – Build trusting & positive relationships with faculty and staff.

-August in-service/Retreat Community Scavenger Hunt

-Continue Year 1 communications, meetings

-Increase parent awareness, attendance at school events

-Establish Professional Learning Communities within departments. Teachers will use this format to reflect, evaluate and collaborate in order to implement district curriculum for all students.

*Teachers will receive training on how to operate within a professional learning community (PLC); increase teacher collaboration, calibrate work samples and use data to improve instruction for all students

*Within the PLC, ALL teachers will learn how to incorporate basic writing skills into their lessons in order to improve the overall campus STAAR Writing performance.

*By the end of the 14-15 school year, all core subject-alike teachers will plan together weekly and utilize common assessments (quizzes, daily assignments, tests)

 

Goal # 2 – Clarify, build systems of organization and structure within Legacy High School that are aligned with MISD policies and procedures in order to create a shared vision for the future.

– Set and communicate expectations for student behavior using a One Week Due Process Protocol with video

-Continue Year 1 practices, structures; continue support for digital learning initiative

-Introduce campus plan to monitor and improve learning at Legacy

– Continue dialogue about formative assessment, common assessments within core subject areas, Fundamental Five strategies

-Continue dialogue about expanding the AVID program on campus, striving for national demonstration status

-Identify potential National Merit Scholars from 8th grade Algebra I lists and Redistep scores AND ensure that these students are enrolled in appropriate Pre AP/AP courses

-By the end of the 14-15 school year, 100% of Legacy teachers will have an iTunes U course set up and use it for instruction

 

Goal # 3 – Build a foundation for continuous improvement of Legacy High School by identifying strengths and weakness of the instructional program. Target areas for growth as identified by all Legacy stakeholders.

-Continue to utilize data for continuous improvement of campus instruction

-Continue to keep all stakeholders informed of campus progress

-Start to incorporate the 21st Century Fluencies (Lee Crockett) to empower students to be global digital citizens [fluency21.com]

-Provide a few Saturday or weekday ACT/SAT prep sessions for students (possibly 3 sessions during the school year)

-Implement 9th Grade Bronco Academy to help 9th graders adjust to high school; provide structures/organization for learning, use of planner and motivation; use of 11th or 12th grade Peer Helpers trained to help 9th graders have a successful transition

-Maintain our GO Center in the Counseling office

-College 101 Meetings with parents (Pre AP/AP Parent Night) to provide parents with information about beginning and managing the college application process, taking challenging courses

-9th grade parent academy

-Meet three (3) times during the year: Fish Camp, End of 1st Six Weeks and End of 1st semester

-Goal: to inform parents of ways to support their incoming 9th grader through this initial “tough” transition time

-Sophomore Parent Update Meeting

*Fall/Winter meeting to start talking about college requirements, Ben Barber opportunities, etc.

 

Year 3 – Elevate (2015-2016)

Goal # 1 – Build trusting & positive relationships with faculty and staff.

– Continue Year 1 communications, meetings

– Set and communicate expectations for student behavior using a One Week Due Process Protocol with video

-Continue Year 1 practices, structures; continue support for digital learning initiative

-Refine and continue campus plan to monitor and improve learning at Legacy

– Continue dialogue about formative assessment, common assessments within core subject areas, digital learning, Fundamental Five strategies

-Continue to refine and improve the Legacy PLC model in order to improve daily instruction, increase teacher collaboration

 

Goal # 3 – Build a foundation for continuous improvement of Legacy High School by identifying strengths and weakness of the instructional program. Target areas for growth as identified by all Legacy stakeholders.

-Continue to utilize data for continuous improvement of campus instruction

-Continue to keep all stakeholders informed of campus progress

-Increase number of students who achieve a Level III proficiency in each EOC tested area

-Continue towards goal of AVID demonstration school status, increase numbers of students in all AVID courses
